The Retractable Fastback takes everything the world loves about the MX-5 and adds a power-retractable hardtop that transforms the car in just 13 seconds. The result is a sports car with true coupe styling and the signature rear buttresses that set it apart — yet one that opens fully to the sky with a single touch. Open-top freedom, closed-roof refinement. The best of both worlds.
The MX-5 RF is powered exclusively by the 184ps 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G engine — the sharper, more urgent choice, and perfectly matched to the RF's slightly more composed character. Drive the rear wheels through a crisp 6-speed manual gearbox with an 8,000rpm redline that rewards those who chase every gear.
Underneath the fastback body the chassis is identical to the soft-top MX-5, with the same Bilstein dampers, Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential, front strut brace and DSC track mode on all RF grades. Kinematic Posture Control dials out body roll mid-corner, maintaining the pure, connected feel that defines every MX-5.
The power-retractable hardtop adds 68kg over the roadster, but the near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution is maintained. With the roof down, you get the open-top experience — with the roof up, genuine coupe refinement and wind-in-the-hair buttress styling that makes the RF unmistakable in any traffic.

Six exterior finishes available on the MX-5 RF — note Jet Black is not available on the RF Homura grade.
The MX-5 RF is available in two grades, both powered exclusively by the 184ps 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G engine.

Detects vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists ahead and prepares the braking system to reduce collision severity — active at city speeds where incidents are most likely to occur.
Radar-based system monitors adjacent lanes and alerts you when a vehicle enters your blind spot. Given the RF's rear buttresses limit visibility, this feature is particularly valuable on the RF model.
Alerts you to vehicles approaching from either side when reversing — especially useful given the RF's reduced rearward visibility when the roof is in the raised position.
Monitors lane markings and provides gentle steering inputs to guide the car back into lane if it begins to drift without the driver indicating, reducing the risk of unintentional lane departure.
Continuously monitors vehicle dynamics and intervenes when necessary. Both RF grades include the DSC Track Mode for a later, less intrusive threshold — ideal for spirited driving on circuit.
Monitors driving patterns to detect signs of fatigue or inattention, alerting the driver with a visual and audible warning when concentration may have lapsed on longer journeys.
